It was all ridiculous to me because I don't even THINK of Banjo as a Nintendo character (the whole Smash bros thing of people saying "welcome home" baffles me too). I thought it was ludicrous that people wanted the Nintendo platform just out of principle because this is supposed to be a revival of a Nintendo game like Banjo. Most gamers DO own an Xbox or a Playstation, including most Switch owners. With Yooka Laylee I was baffled at how many people complained it wasn't coming to Nintendo yet just on principle even though they owned Xboxes or Playstations. Still, I'm happy that other folks are excited for it, and I hope that they'll enjoy the game when it comes out. I guess I'll have to wait and see if there's anything in the future that changes my mind, but it's not for me right now. But it doesn't appeal to me here, and it's such a shame because I've wanted a good 3D platformer that mixed in third-person shooter elements since Ratchet & Clank 2, and this could theoretically be right up my alley.

Maybe for some people, the fact that it plays like an especially old type of game is the appeal and I can see that (for example, as someone who grew up with the original MediEvil, I like how its PS4 remake looks to be retaining its mechanically clunky movement and controls).
I've never played Jet Force Gemini so I won't make assumptions about how that game played, but Tamarin really feels like a game from the late 90s/early 00s in how it swaps from platforming to shooting in a way that just doesn't feel right. (At least the music's pretty good!)Īs for the gameplay, the platforming seems pretty standard but the shooting looks clunky as heck. I'd like to think they'll get better, but for now, they just look like your average factory and countryside levels without anything unique to them. My big issue is how standardized the worlds are despite the nice graphics, that actual designs look incredibly generic for what they're trying to go for. Some of the character designs (like the main character) are stylised and interesting, while others are quite bland. Visually, it's fairly uninspired - it looks "fine" in a technical sense, but nothing about it stands out in the way that something like Yooka-Laylee does.
